Autumnologist
Arrowhead Press, 2006

‘Anne Ryland’s poems are subtle as Vermeer paintings – so hauntingly meditative they make you shiver. She has a deliciously mercurial imagination, and is in love with language …’

Pascale Petit

The Unmothering Class
Arrowhead Press, 2011

‘A powerful sense of history pervades Anne Ryland’s impressive second collection … There is plenty to delight in (staircases, secrets, stars) and be moved by (letters, winters, sorrows).’

Linda France

Anne Ryland’s poetry reflects a preoccupation with letters, silences and voices from the past. The coastline, landscape and history of the North filter into her writing. Recent poems explore themes such as home, exile and belonging; places that become alternative homes (from ruins to furniture); language and its layers; and the miracles of the human body.

Anne leads writing workshops for poetry and prose in Northumberland, Scotland and Newcastle. Her aim is to create a warm and supportive environment in which people can embrace the craft of writing, discover its unique rewards and surprise themselves.
